At the beginning of the year it seems that everyone makes these resolutions. I hear of people saying they are going to go on a “diet” make more time for themselves, exercise, be kind….blah blah blah.

I don’t make new year resolutions. What I do at the beginning of each year is take stock of everything around me and reason with myself. I say to myself, “hey, what do you need to do to be better?” and set a plan in action.

Setting goals in the new year!

Early last summer I had one of these unplanned moments. I had a wake up call after leaving the doctors office. He told me that if I didn’t make a change, I would be on medication for diabetes (Type II) and high blood pressure if I didn’t take better care of myself.

I took stock of everything around me and said, Teri…what do you need do to be better?

First thing was first and that was eliminating ALL THE JUNK from my life. The food, the clutter, the chaos.

I set a plan into action. I decided to eat clean.

I got rid of the gluten, the additives, the GMO’s, the sugar. I decided to eat clean. I did a full detox and it wasn’t nearly as hard as I thought.

I sat down with an amazing nutritionist and joined an awesome gym with some of the most like-minded, goal-seeking, supportive people that I have ever met. Can you believe I do bootcamp workouts at least three times a week? I am addicted!

Did you know that sugar is more addictive than cocaine? That was the hardest part of the entire detox and the new me. My new lifestyle. Going through withdrawals from 50+ years of sugar. But in four short days I was done. Done with sugar. Done with the cravings. Done with the hunger pangs.

In those four days I felt like I was sick. I was exhausted. I slept. A lot. I was very sore. My body ached. I felt like I almost had the flu. It was weird. I was careful to drink a lot of water and I started each morning with a glass full of warm lemon water as part of my “cleanse”. But after those four days (which was more like three and a half) I felt refreshed. My skin looked better. I had more energy than I had in years — I am not exaggerating. In four short days of no sugar, I felt absolutely amazing.

I learned how to eat the right way for me, for my lifestyle. And it is clean eating.

I eat protein and fiber at each and every meal. I eat four or five times more than I have in years. I eat protein fueled and fiber rich foods. Some days, I have to force myself to eat — seriously. But I have learned that to keep myself “even” and all systems go, I must eat at a slow and steady pace all day long.

I sleep less and better than I have in years. I am stronger — physically — than I ever thought I could be. I never imagined that I would lose 30 pounds in just three short months by making such a simple change.

How I Lost 30 Pounds in 3 Months By Eating Clean

It has now been about five months since I started eating clean and I have lost about 35 pounds. I fell “off track” and stopped eating my six meals a day with the hectic holiday season, so I did a reset again at the beginning of the year. I took stock of the chaos holiday’s and knew that I needed to get back on track.

I knew what I needed to do to be better. I still eat clean, but I need to eat more, space my meals apart and work harder at the gym.

Stay tuned for more on exactly how I eat clean, the healthy swaps I have made and I will even share some of my favorite recipes that I make.

Eating clean in 2019 (and beyond) is the way to go. I promise that if you are feeling stuck in how you feel, just by eliminating sugar or gluten (or both) from your diet will benefit you in more ways than one. I never imagined that the benefit would be losing so much needed weight that needed to be gone.
